The reason for this role is:

 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Financial Controller to join our Finance team in Sydney, supporting the financial management and commercial performance of our renewable energy projects.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role will work closely with Project Managers, Commercial, Procurement and other key stakeholders to provide strong financial oversight throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will play an important role in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, financial reporting and commercial analysis, while providing meaningful financial insights to support project and management decision-making.

 

 

What will you be doing?

  • Prepare and manage project execution budgets, forecasts-at-completion (FAC), cost-to-complete forecasts and regular cost reports.
  • Monitor project expenditure, analyse variances and identify potential cost overruns, savings opportunities and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain project cash flow, revenue, cost and margin forecasts.
  • Work closely with project teams to understand project progress and translate operational developments into financial impacts.
  • Identify, quantify and monitor project financial risks and opportunities.
  • Support subcontractor and procurement management, including purchase orders, invoices, staff costs, contractor costs and project cost allocations.
  • Support revenue recognition, project accounting, month-end processes, provisions, accruals and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and present financial and project performance reporting to local and Group senior management.
  • Support financial audits, governance and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Commercial, Procurement and other stakeholders to strengthen cost ownership and support informed commercial decisions.

 

What does your background look like?

  • 5–7 years’ experience in project finance, project controlling, commercial finance or a similar role, preferably within construction, infrastructure, engineering or energy.
  • Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, variance analysis and project financial reporting.
  • Experience working on large or complex capital projects, ideally within an EPC or similar project environment.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen with the ability to translate project information into meaningful financial insights.
  • Strong ERP and Excel capability; experience with SAP and Power BI would be advantageous.
  • An interest in and practical understanding of AI, automation and data analytics, with the ability to apply these tools to improve finance and project controlling processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to work across Finance, Project, Commercial and Procurement teams.
  • CPA/CA or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
